sooo.. my hobby for my hunter has always been soloing stuff, lately im trying to finish glory of the hero solo (damn you amber void!!)
and then ive tried alot of other stuff. and i thought some other of you maybe have some fun bosses that youve done solo and want to share some tactics and story about.
and pls stick to things youve tried or killed by yourselves so youve got first hand info
ill start with my latest endeavor.... i havent killed him yet, but im close and ive only spent maybe 1 hour on him so far.. usually fuck up just before im about to kill him (ie phase 4)
KAEL'THAS (the raid one.. not magisters terrace =P )
why? well cuz of ashes of al'ar ofc
so its a bit tricky.. its doable in both MM and BM spec. doesnt really matter that much. but i find it a bit more forgiving in BM due to pet aggro being more stable
things to do beforehand:
*get a turtle and a ferocity pet. the turtle should have last stand and the great resistance (15% resistance to elemental dmg) and preferably thunderstomp
*get a macro for using your mainhander use function. (everything that saves time is good)
*spec into spirit bond.. its gonna be your healing over the fight. if youre MM you use chimaera shot to keep you alive
*MD glyph (duh)
*mend pet glyph
now for the fight..
phase 1:
pretty simple.. tank with a ferocity pet and kill them all together except for thaladred. him you kite to the back of the room and kill there so it takes longer for him to reach you in phase 3. (dont use the pet here.. just kite him)
kill the engineer when you havent got the debuff anymore. its ok if your pet has it since youre gonna dismiss your current pet for phase 2 (you cant tank the weapons very well if your pet is gonna get stunned all the time and you need the dps)
after dismissing your current pet (you might wanna consider doing this while the engineer is alive and then just kill him off with a kill-shot (you need the focus for phase 2)) then you summon your turtle pet before phase 2 starts
phase 2
lay down a explosive trap and MD all the weapons to your pet (pop BM i-win-button or chainpop rapid fire for this)
and start nuking down the weapons (single target worked best for me). usually easiest to start with the staff and then the knives (their bleed debuff stack)
now pick up the staff and equip it and use it (cant say how many times i forgot to use it)
the healing mace is shit hard to get down. and the bulwark takes very little dmg so these might be impossible for you to kill before phase 3 starts (im lacking gear though so you better geared ppl might get them down. atleast the shield)
now comes the tricky part
phase 3
now if you forgot to use the staff ure fucked.. they are gonna stun you, fear you and conflag you to death in seconds.
MD everything to your pet, ofc if you managed to stack them good in phase 1 this gets easier)
but if you remembered then start by killing the mage (coperian?) since she hits you too and you cant heal that good. hopefully you get her down before thaladred reaches you (remember you killed him in the back).
then kite and kill thaladred, take some turns at your pet to heal it.
then kill engineer and last fear guy .. doesnt really matter since you have the staff and they wont do shit on you
kill the last guy at the right statue in the room. gives you more time
phase 4
this is a pretty easy part if you get the start right.
he wont MC his current target but he will try to MC you, thats bad.
there are 2 ways of dealing with this
1. distract shot him when its time for him to cast it
2. LoS him (it works.. he needs LoS to MC)
number 1 is shit hard when doing that and kiting phoenixes so number 2 is easier
there are statues on the side of the room. i used the right one. just stand behind it with your pet on passive or on move-to command and wait for him to run after you when he activates. let your pet get aggro and run in front of the statue and wait for his MC. (he shouts something like "obey" when he does it)
after that its a while (i think 30 sec) til he does it again. so you can nuke him and heal your pet
then phoenixes starts to spawn.. just kite them and kill them and the eggs that remains from them.. the egg has like no hp to talk about so its fast.
just remember not to run into LoS of kael when you kite the phoenix or he might MC you.
and ive fucked up on the MC twice so i havent reached phase 5 yet, but from what i remember from the tbc days he only throws you into the air and does like nothing really.. just heal the pet and nuke i think.
reason for me not killing him yet is that i ran out of time. only had an hour to try him before i had to go do other stuff.
but the hardest part it getting as many weapons down as possible before phase 3 and then when phase 3 starts (remember the damn staff)
in phase 4 its just getting him out of LoS and dont loose focus and get MC'd
well thats my fun endeavor atm. after this maybe ill try illidan or malygos (heard malygos was interesting to do)
im gonna take this all the way
gonna break whats in my way

I havn't solo'ed much on my hunter, alltho I do find it pretty amusing occasionally to see that turtle do his job! (Usual excuses for me not soloing old content are that it takes time and I don't have that much time, especially not when I have a few alts to care of as well, and having to respecc and rerespeccc back after and such)
Anyway, after reading your post I did recall a really good movieguide I once saw about kael'thas and I went back and found it!
Video guide for Hunter solo Kael'thas
If you are going to attempt Illidan at some point I would love to see a fraps vid (if you have fraps)! as I think that will be pretty intresting!
if/when I get time to solo stuff I will most likely go for Kael'thas and Kil'jaeden(I don't think he's soloable for hunters atm, I think a warlock and a rogue has done it so far, But maybe with next tier+more gear we'll be able to down him) becuase yea, Mount and bow! I might do Illidan as well just for the funzies. And prolly AQ to get the coloured mounts I miss, alltho I can just do trash there so nothing interesting there I suppose. Malygoes does sound interesting, I would imagine the drake phase miught be alittle tricky as you want to heal yourself and keep the dot up on him at the same time, and obviosuly kill him before enrage. I havn't read anything about him tho, alltho that would prolly be my one I would like to do soonish as he's pretty fast to get to and doesn't require you to kill anythinng else first.
btw update if you kill something nice!

been thinking of kil'jaeden too. and it might work actually.
problem with illidan and kil'jaeden is getting to them since you cant solo your way there.
illidan gets alot easier with gear also since if you have high enough dps he will never summon the guys who paralyze you which makes the rest of the fight pretty much tank and spank. and healing isnt really a problem if you have spirit bond while being MM spec for chimaera shot too. (respecced to it just since i wanna try illidan soon)
nice vid btw ^^ probably easier to look at that than read my wall of text
im gonna take this all the way
gonna break whats in my way

So while you were all busy raiding (darn you people that stole my spot!) I decided to go and raid anyway! And I decided to go and solo Malygos! This fight actually turned out to be quite a lot harder than I expected, so if you're looking for challenge go for this one!
I'll write a quick mini guide (might update it later with more info)
Things to do before
1. Make sure you have the key to summon him (25 man key works just fine here as well)
2. As usual you want MD + mend pet glyphs
3. Turtle pet is still the pet you wat to do your dirty tanking job
4. I did this as MM specc and not BM specc, the fight requires relatively high dps and MMs CDs fits this fight extremely well.
5. I specced into spirit bond as well, alltho I'm sure it's doable without (not that much healing is needed if you use chimera shot every CD.
The fight!
Phase 1
This phase is alittle tricky even tho it doesn't sound like it.
in this phase you want to burn him down pretty fast so use CD at the start (pref. when standing in the sparks)
Anyway, start of by pulling the boss and MD to your pet.
I usually don't blow my CDs untill after first vortex becuase I felt like I reached ~90% when vortex came even when not blowing CDs. So I save them for the first spark that come.
Usually I aimed at only getting 3 vortex'es in p1 becuase the enrage timer is pretty strict. My goal was to get the first one at ~90%, second one at 75% and the third at 60%.
Important! when being in vortex your pet is dismissed and will respawn when you land. This is pretty tricky and wiped me alot becuaes when you land again the pet spawn with only 7K hp untill it realises it actually has 111K! anyway, if you FD too quick malygos will just turn around and 1 shot the pet becuase it only has 7K hp. So when you land you want to Disengage away from the middle and run as far away as possible and when you see your pet get it's full HP you FD.
use CDs in between vortex 1-2 and between vortex 2-3 and pref. with sparks underneath you. when you blow them watch out you don't pull aggro.
Also, don't freak out if malygos gets a spark, he barely hits your pet and 1-2 mend pets between each vortex is more than plenty to keep it up. (note that your pet can be at 20% when a vortex comes, becuase it gets dismessed and automaticly resummoned, it'll be back at 100% when you get out of vortex, so 1 more GCD to deal dmg!) Also remember each vortex resets the threat table and you can sitll dps while being in a vortex.
when you've reached 50% p2 starts, try to get as much nuke on malygos as posible when he flies away.
phase 2!
Alot of scions will spawn you want to kill the 2 melee ones first.
IMPORTANT TRICK! when this phase starts you'll mostlikely have all the scions in the air shooting at you, if this happends simply FD and they won't do any harm anymore in this phase, if you don't FD and they attack you, you will die.
When the 2 melee ones are dead, don't bother healing your pet if it's low, you won't need it anymore and it won't take dmg.
Stay under the shields when the breath happends and kill the 2 melees, when they are dead you should have Rapid fire back, blow all your CDs and nuke those schions down in the air. pop readiness and rapid fire again, just get to p3 as quickly as possible.
In the transition to p3, make sure to /hug the pet for it's brave and awesome effort!
phase 3
Phase 3 is pretty simple actually (damn I even wiped here on 17K hp left on him, that's less than one tick from the dot, becuase I was too scared/excited that I "Forgot" what to do LOL! yea I'm a noob!).
Anyway, You want to use a rotation that looks like this 1-1-2-3 and then simply repeat 1-1-2-3-1-1-2-3-1-1-2-3 etc etc! this way your debuff should stay on him and you get healed as well.
He is slowly killing you tho, becuase the healing is not enough to make up for all his dmg, so make sure you don't take a shower in the big electric sparks he shoots at you, preferably move out before you get hit. (On my kill I was acutally down at only 6K hp left on my drake, before it was healed back up alitte)
anyway, here it is simply a matter of killing him before he kills you.
He has a pretty strict 10 min enrage timer, so it's essential to do alot of dps in p1 (pref. only 3 vortexs) and get quickly through p2(I usually finihsed p2 just before/in the middle of the second breath).
It may take some attempts to get used to the fight, I started out having 5-6 vortexes in p1 lol becuaes I wasn't aware how much dps was required.
Also, I didn't use any buffs from any other class on my attempts/kill execept from flask and food buff. but I would imagine haiving kings would make it easier if you're lacking dps.
I'll try and fraps a kill next week if I have time or aint confirmed to a raid or something.
If you have any questions or if I didn't explain something well enough, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability! but imo this is a pretty fun encounter to solo and quitea challenge as well tbh.

sounds like fun, malygos it is next then for me
thankfully i have the key for it =)
my problem will probably be the dps, but maybe it will go ok.
also read up on something after trying marrowgar a few times... he will spike you UNLESS you are worgen! so hes not soloable unless i do a race change =/ apparently some bug where he targets by race
im gonna take this all the way
gonna break whats in my way

Hey groupie, I read something interesting today you might want to know.
Marrowgar is still soloable, even if you're not a worgan. The thing is, he casts theese bone spikes, But it'll never be on the tank. So you're pretty much going to watch the timer and when the spike is about to happend you distract shot the boss, after that simply FD and continue dpsing. Just make suer to watch the timers on DBM
